The Yankees havent really been lighting it up with the bats lately but worse yet they havent had consistent starting pitching. The last couple of times out for the Yankees have been shades of what they should have been doing weeks ago. Pitching and hitting at the same time that is.  As I type this that Yankees are going to the ninth against Tampa with a 5-3 lead. Nova was fabulous going seven innings with eight strike outs. Soriano took care of the eighth and Robertson is coming in to try to nail down his first save opportunity of the year.

While I wait for Robertson to hopefully nail down this one and move the Yankees up a game in the standings I want to talk about Andy Pettitte a bit. Last Sunday Andy got beat up in AAA Rochester but seems to be ready. Andy is 0-2 in the minors but with an ERA under four and seems to be ready for big league action. He will get that opportunity on sunday vs the mariners. It will be interesting to see who becomes odd man out of the rotation. David Phelps is the favorite to return to the pen but could change all that with a stellar performance tomorrow during his second career major league start. Phil Hughes pitched effectively in his last start so it could make it a tough decision if Phelps is good.

Robertson gave me pause by loading the bases but came through with a strikeout to end the game and get the save. Very Mo like if you ask me. Speaking of Mariano, he has proclaimed that he will be back next year that he will not go out like this. I am still holding out hope that he will be back for the playoffs this season but im satisfied that he will be back next year for a proper farewell. I like David Robertson and I hope he continues to be lights out like he has been. I would love someone as young as him to be able to take the reins from Mo and lead the Yankees forward.

Pitching is everything and if they continue down the track they have been on the last two days look for another great season to end with another ring for my favorite Yankee Derek Jeter.
