Russell Branyan is another low-cost minor league deal with a spring training invite. I like this do to the fact that he has some power and hits left handed. Branyan is 35 now and it seems that his best years are behind him. He has changed addresses six times over the last two years but he has hit two of the biggest HR I have ever seen at the new Yankee stadium. My only concern is that this signing is in place of Chavez. Branyan has limited experience at third playing but hasn’t spent any considerable time their since 2008.
I still believe that the Yankees will pursue Ibanez, Matsui or Damon as a primary DH choice. Branyan is a decent plan C in my opinion I would rather see them give the tandem of Nunez and Jones a shot.
