The Yankees have clinched the division as the colossal collapse of the Red Sox have them fighting for their playoff lives. The Sox and the bombers will play today at four and a double header on Sunday with the Rays cheering for the Yanks on every pitch.

Any combination of four Sox wins or Rays losses will eliminate the Rays from the wildcard chase. However if the Yanks were to take two of three from the Red Sox and the Rays were to take care of the Blue Jays. we could end the weekend with the Red Sox having only a one game lead in the wildcard race. Now the Rays finish up against the Yankees and the Red Sox against the Orioles. If the Yankees have clinched home field by then look for them to rest some people and try and get a look at some of the September call ups. This could make it an interesting hunt for the wild card.

As for the Yankees the only real question right now is their playoff rotation as they have not had consistency out of the bottom half of their rotation of late. My best guess right now for ALS. is

Game one  Sabathia

Game two Nova

Game three  Burnett

Game four  Sabathia

Game five (if needed) up for grabs.

Now this last series against the Red Sox could show another picture but that’s the way I see it now.
