The New York Yankees are getting red hot at just the right time and have won seven of their last eight including a sweep of the Blue Jays over the weekend. CC Sabathia got his 19th win yesterday and his second consecutive start with ten strikeouts,  putting him two shy of 2000 for his career. AJ Burnett, after making a minor mechanical adjustment, pitched well enough for manager Joe Girardi to decide to go with the six man rotation at least one more time thru. With only having one more day off for the rest of the season I don’t think that its really going to throw things that far out of whack. The Yankees have a one and a half game lead in the division over the Red Sox and if the playoffs were starting tomorrow  they would have home field advantage opening against the Tigers and the Red Sox would travel to Texas. I think there is considerable advantage to being at home this year and not having to go to Texas.

Jesus Montero and I am just waiting for my opportunity to post the headline JESUS SAVES so be warned. Seriously though after a less than inspiring first game he has three hits in ten at bats and has scored two runs. Although still looking for his first RBI he certainly is hitting the ball hard. Speaking of hitting it hard Alex Rodriguez has returned to the lineup after battling a thumb injury that followed his knee injury. Sounds like he may be destined to be the full time DH if not next year the following. So all of you who are hoping that the Yankees sign a big bat like Prince Fielder, don’t hold your breath. A-Rod had a home run and a strikeout. Considering he has only played 86 games 15 HR is not that horrible. I think if he had stayed healthy he would have had a beast of a year. Lets just hope that he can be hot the rest of September into October.

The Yankees open a four game  series against the Orioles , three of which will be day games. The Yankees seem to prefer them and I wont be surprised if it becomes a sweep. Lets hope the Yankees can build a division lead over the next couple of weeks as they end the season with six against Tampa and three more against the Red Sox.
