• From September 1 through the end of the regular season , any player on the 40-man roster (also referred to as the "expanded roster") is eligible to play in an official regular season game. Many young players make their Major League debuts in this way, as "September call-ups." The Yankees have started by calling up four players that will hopefully help them down the stretch. The first of which was Jesus Montero. Montero is a catcher that will most likely see most of his starts at DH, which may spell the end of Jorge Posada as the Primary designated hitter. Montero has really been hot with the bat lately and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the lineup sooner rather than later. They Yankees also called up Chris Dickerson who has been up and down a few times this season. He will be the primary fourth outfielder on days that Andruw Jones DH’s otherwise he’s a sharp fielding insurance policy for the outfield down the stretch. Brandon Laird also rejoins the bombers as infield depth. Although primarily a third baseman he can also play short second and first. The surprise of the first round of call ups is Scott Proctor. Scott has been with the Yankees before and will give them a veteran arm out of the pen during the month of September.
