The Yankees got their asses kicked by the Red Sox for three straight days but have finally shown signs of life as they unload on the Cleveland Indians for 11 runs. Benches cleared in the bottom of the second inning when Indians pitcher Carmona decided to intentionally throw at Mark Texerias head one pitch after Granderson hit a home run. Manager Joe Girardi was toe to toe in a screaming match with Indians coach Many Acta during the bench clearing. The Indians cheap play should not overshadow the brilliant performance of starter Ivan Nova who went seven innings only allowing four hits and two earned runs. Kevin Whelan walked Sanit gave up four runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning to almost bring the Indians back into the game but Mariano Rivera came in to record the final two outs of the game to seal the 11-6 Yankee victory. Other performances to note is that Jorge Posada has suddenly broken out of his slump going 3 for 5 with an RBI and finally bringing his average up over .200 and just a point less then Nick Swisher who has been struggling and went hitless tonight but walked twice and had an RBI and is still playing an excellent Right Field. A-Rod had one of the longest/ tallest home runs I have ever seen in my life. It went into an area of the upper deck in left  center field that almost never sees any action. Jeter had another hit putting him just ten away from 3000. Hopefully he can hit number 3000 during this home stand. It would probably happen against the Rangers but he would need to be pretty hot to have ten hits in the next seven games. Most likely it will happen when the Yankees take to the road against the Cubs next weekend.

As most of you know Joba Chamberlain has a torn ligament in his elbow and will miss the remainder of this season and probably some of next. However Joba is confident that he will be ready for spring training next year.  He will undergo Tommy John surgery next Thursday by Dr. James Andrews the best in the business. Soriano has not started throwing yet but will hopefully be back by the All-Star break as well as Feliciano. There is no timetable for the return of Domaso Marte but hopefully he will be there down the stretch in September. Russell Martin will take batting practice tomorrow and hopefully will play on Sunday. Not a moment to soon as Cervelli has really been struggling defensively. When people start wondering when they will put Posada back behind the plate its time to get im back in the game. The Yankees most glaring weakness right now is the bull-pen which started the season as a strength. Currently no trade market has developed and Cashman will try to patch things with his minor league talent but much of their talent is struggling or is no where near ready for the majors. I’m sure a trade is coming. Phil Hughes will be returning soon and I will be curious to see what they do with him. Logic says to put him in the eighth inning role where he was so dominant two years ago but if his velocity is there I think he will replace Garcia in the rotation who will either go to the pen or be released.

The Yankees and the Indians now have Identical records at 34-27 and play a 1:00 start tomorrow when we will see Bartolo Colon 4-3, 3.39 vs Mitch Talbot 2-2, 4.18. Talbot has only given up three earned runs in his last twelve innings pitched bit to show how Jeckle and Hyde he can be he only lasted three innings on May 25th when he gave up 8 runs on 12 hits.

Colon on the other hand has easily been the Yankees second most consistent starter and has only allowed 64 hits in 71 innings striking out 66 batters.
