In a game where starter AJ Burnett didn’t seem to have his
best stuff, the bull-pen formula locks it down. Burnett struggled through six
innings giving up four runs on nine hits but left with the lead. The Yankees
formula of Joba Chamberlain in the seventh Rafael Soriano in the eighth and
Mariano Rivera in the ninth only yielded two hits to lock down the Yankees 5-4
win.

Russell Martin continues to be one of the Yankees best players this season.
Today he went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk. He also threw out Juan Rivera
trying to steal third base with a perfect throw to get the strike um out throw
um out double play.  We have to remember that this guy is coming back from a
broken hip. The Dodgers were talking to him about being a reserve player and
here he is now being the best catcher in the American League thus far.

Eric Chavez continues to play hard and be a difference maker in every game he
is in. Today at third base, for Alex Rodriguez , Chavez went 1-3 with a walk an
RBI and a run scored.Probably his biggest contribution is one that wont show up
in the stats when he slid hard into second base keeping them out of a double
play and leading indirectly to three runs. The Yankees seem to be getting the
most out of their offseason pick ups. Speaking of offseason pickups the May 1st
deadline for Kevin Millwood is tomorrow. They either need to call him up the big
leagues or give him the option to become a free agent if he so chooses.Thursday
was his final start in the minors before this deadline and realistically
probably the end of his short tenure with the Yankees. Millwood gave up six
runs  in just two innings. I say BUBYE!

Carlos Silva, although far from being called up to the big leagues, threw
three scoreless during extended spring training. Silva was 10-6 with the Cubs
last season so look for him to get a look should Nova or anyone else in the
rotation lose the Yankees confidence.

Speaking of Nova he will take the mound tomorrow against the Jays at 1:05.
Nova has been the shakiest of the current starters with a record of 1-2 and an
ERA of 5.82. I wish I could say something good about the way that Nova has
pitched but thus far he has not impressed me. Check us out tomorrow night for a
complete wrap up of the days happenings. Make sure you check us out on facebook
