Back at the beginning of spring training Bartolo Colon was a longshot to even make the team. But the Yankees liked what they saw of him in winter ball and decided to let him compete for a spot. The jokes about his weight were flying and everyone doubted the former ace could still pitch at the major league level. Colon has proven everyone wrong to this point in the season. After taking a spot in the rotation for injured All-star Phil Hughes, Colon has thrown 26 innings only giving up 23 hits with an ERA of 2.77 and 26 strikeouts. His latest being a 3-1 Victory last night over the White Sox where he went eight innings and only gave up one run and struck out six. Mariano Rivera got the save his eighth of the year and Robinson Cano furnished all the offence they needed with a three run homer.

Tomorrow the Yankees will send ace CC Sabathia to the mound in an effort to earn a split with the struggling White Sox before Inviting the Blue Jays to town on Friday where we will get to see the other spring training invitee/surprise Freddy Garcia attempt to build off his masterpiece the last time he took the mound.

If the Yankees continue to pitch this well I’m not worried at all about the rotation. It also seems that they are starting to give the team some length which will certainly help the bullpen on this long stretch without a day off.
