I know that its only spring training and it doesn’t count for anything, but its hard to ignore the fact that the bombers are crushing the ball. Look at some of these numbers :

Arod is batting over .3oo and has had a hit in all 13 games he has played in he has five HR, six doubles and 11 RBIs

Tex who is routinely a slow starter is batting .342 leading the team with eight doubles.

Jeter .341

Chavez .371

And Curtis Granderson is batting .385 and has scored a team leading 11 runs.

Its really hard to ignore these things, especially how good Arod looks at the plate. He is another year away from his hip surgery and looks to be 100% . A big year for Alex could propel the Yanks into the post season, Mark Texieria is putting in the extra work and it shows, He is in the cage before everyone else and stays longer than anyone in hopes to reverse his historical slow start.

The battle for the rotation continues. One thing that is notable is that Girardi has named Burnett to be the number two starter and Hugues to be in the three hole. My best guess is that Nova will be the fourth starter and either Colon or Garcia will be the fifth . Personally I like Colon, Im a fan of the power pitcher over the control type. Still nursing injuries are Joba Chamberlain and Jose Feliciano, although it looks like Joba will be in a game this week Manager Joe Girardi was less certain about when Feliciano would take to the mound again.

All the pitchers really seem to like Russell Martain and I think he will be a good Yankee that they may not keep now that Montero has closed the gap defensively and is probably one of the best natural hitters I have ever seen.  The Roster will be finalized by March 28th I will make my final picks some time before that and it will be fun to see how close I come.
