francisco-cervelliLast years back-up catcher Francisco Cervelli will miss at least four weeks with a hairline fracture in his foot after having been the victim of a hard foul ball. Seems that he is hurt every spring  but this injury has serious implications.

Cervelli was having a decent spring at the plate but was already starting to be overshadowed by rookie sensation  Jesus Montero. Montero is showing that his defense is leaps and bounds better than last year. It is already known that Montero has the better bat. At 21 years old he was expected to start the season in AAA but now it seems more likely that he will break spring training as the clubs back up catcher. If it sticks it might mean trouble for Cervelli and his aspirations of staying in the big leagues. I don’t mean to speculate but Cervelli is still a young serviceable catcher and should bring back at least a decent pitching prospect in return if the Yankees were to trade him.
