OK It’s a small trade and it will probably make some of you mad but lets break it down. The Yankees give Juan Miranda to the Diamondbacks and the Yankees receive RHP Scott Allen. Allen, 19, posted a 4-4 record and 4.73 ERA (41 ER in 78.0 IP) with 22 walks and 79 strikeouts in 16 starts with Single-A South Bend this past season. Scouts say he has a plus fastball averaging around 93 MPH and changes speeds well with an ability to miss bats.
Miranda batted .253 going (21-for-83) with 11 runs scored, 3 doubles, a triple, 4 home runs and 14 RBI in 46 games over parts of three seasons with the Yankees.
He hit .219 (14-for-64) with 7 runs scored, 2 doubles, a triple, 3 home runs and 10 RBI in 33 games with the big league club this season.
In 80 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, Miranda batted .285 (84-for-295) with 52 runs scored, 15 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs and 43 RBI. Realistically he was never going to fill any more than a bench roll with the Bombers. Ill admit he had a fair bat and will probably be productive for the Diamondbacks, the Yankees have no need for him at first base and with plenty of aging players biding for the DH spot his usefulness is limited. A 19 year old plus pitcher however may be an investment for the future. I think this was a great move by the Bombers and if the kid lives up to his potential. Good Move Brian Cashman I give this one a B+
