Kevin Long has been resigned for three more years. This was a no brainer. Long is well respected by management and players alike and gets results. It cant be said enough what a great job he has done with players like Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson. Every hitter has gotten a little something from longs tutelage and keen eye for batting. His new deal will likely give him a raise over his last 1.2 Million dollar deal.
The pitching coach vacancy will not be so simple. Its still unclear why Dave Eiland was let go other than his denial that there was any sort of rift between him and Joe Girardi. There are a couple of internal candidates in Mike Harkey and Scott Aldred. My personal favorite for the job is current Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz who was also former pitching coach for Girardi when he was with the Marlins. Leo Mazzone has thrown his name into the mix bit I dont feel that the Yankees have any interest in bringing him back to NY. If I were a betting man I would say that Mike Harkey will get the job.
