George Steinbrenner the Yankees owner and genius businessman has died. It’s a tragic day for Yankee Universe. There is not too much to be said about George Steinbrenner. He was an owner, whether you loved him or hated him, who wanted to win. He once said the only thing more important than winning was breathing. He meant it.

Since Mr. Steinbrenner bought the team the Yankees have been a force in modern sports. He turned the Yankees into a billion dollar business through sheer work ethic. He demanded greatness from his players and in turn they gave it to him more often than not. Sure he was brash. Sure he was short tempered.

I would almost guarantee that right now Mr. Steinbrenner and Billy Martin are having a beer. Rest in Peace Boss you will be missed and never duplicated. You are a model for all other owners to follow. Your number 1 priority was to win and you did it better than anyone else. I am sure he would be happy to know that when he passed away his Yankees were in first place.

In short, thank you.
