It only seemed fitting that on Jackie Robinson day the man who was named after him ,Robinson Cano, would have two HR and the last man to wear Robinsons number (42) Mariano Rivera would get the save in this 6-2 series winning game vs the Angels.
Phil Hughes had his season debut and was dominate. He lasted only 5 innings but only gave up 2 runs on three hits vs a dangerous Angels offense. He located his pitches well and got ahead of the hitters. He also had six strikeouts. If he continues to pitch like that it should help Javy Vazquez relax and take a little pressure off.

The Yankee bats came alive with two HR from Cano , two triples from Granderson,  a HR and a Double with 2RBI’s from Jeter , and  two hits from Marcus Thames one of which looked like a HR off the Bat but  fell short. Im sure he will hear about the fact that he didn’t run hard out of the box. I cant figure Mark Texieria at all he is only batting .097 but is still getting on base with three walks tonight and a .302 OBP.  When his bat wakes up the Yankees will be unstoppable. Not that they aren’t now, and Mark still is flashing the leather on defense.

The Bull Pen was awesome tonight.David Robertson struck out three over an inning and two thirds. Damaso Marte gave up two hits but did not allow a run. Joba Chamberlain gave  up one hit over an inning  and a  third  but that last  hit with a  runner  on  first made it a save situation. Enter Mariano Rivera for save number four and thats the ball game, Mo still has an era of 0.00

For the Angels their offense came off the bat of Hideki Matsui and his Second inning HR and an RBI grounder by Howie Kendrick in the sixth,

Tomorrow night the Rangers come to town and CC Sabathia takes the mound in hopes to pick up where he left off with his seven innings of one hit ball. Sat AJ  Burnett will be on the hill and we will probably see Fransisco Cervelli as the catcher. Not because he doesn’t like Jorge  Posada but because its a day game after a night game and the Yankees play nine in a row without a day off.
