– The Yankees have been in discussions with Andy Pettite and contrary to the first report of him turning down an offer from the Yankees. The Yankees are preparing to make an offer to Pettite and state that they will not low ball him.

– Brian Bruney has been traded to the Nationals for a PTBNL. This opens up another roster spot and saves some money. The Yankees have the first pick in the Rule 5 draft so this could be useful.

– When Brian Cashman was asked what his priorities for the offseason he had this to say :

“Pitching, pitching, pitching, and then obviously left field,” Cashman said. “Those are the obvious areas we need to focus on. The DH spot is important, there’s no doubt about that. There are players like our own, Hideki Matsui, who can fit that bill. There are players on the current roster who could fit that bill. We have players from within the system that could be promoted to fit that bill. There are a number of ways that we could go there that can be answered at a later date.”

Hat tip to Chad Jennings for the Cash quote.

Chad also says that there has been some discussion of Jason Marquis. Seems like he would be a ok fit for the Yankees but not a first rate option. He kind of reminds me of Pettite as well will throw 200+ innings for ya with an ERA around four and is good for 10-15 wins a year.  I could see him as a back up choice if other bigger names fall threw but I still believe the Yankees will get Halladay. Time will tell.

– The Yankees also have not made a decision on Wang. They will look at the latest medical reports before putting anything in stone.

Tomorrow is another day stay tuned.
