brett Yesterday the Yanks locked down a spot in the Playoffs by defeating the Angels 6-5. This also brings the Bombers magic number for clinching the division down to 6.

They did it in Typical Yankees style with a  Brett Gardner single in the ninth inning and then promptly stealing second  base.Derek  Jeter worked a walk and Johnny Damon pushed Gardner to third with a sacrifice bunt. . Alex Rodriguez then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brett and Mariano Rivera came in to lock down the 6-5 win in the bottom of the inning, recording Strikeout number 1001 of his career in the process. Winning in Anaheim has not been an easy task for the Yankees and a win today will do wonders for their momentum going into the post season.

Today the Yankees and Angels meet again for an afternoon special. Here is a look at the starting lineups:

YANKEES (96-56)
Jeter SS
Hairston 3B
Teixeira 1B
Matsui DH
Duncan RF
Cano 2B
Cabrera LF
Gardner CF
Molina C

Pitching: RHP A.J. Burnett (11-9, 4.22).

ANGELS (90-61)
Figgins 3B
Aybar SS
Abreu RF
Hunter CF
Morales 1B
Rivera LF
Kendrick 2B
Matthews RF
Napoli C

Pitching: LHP Scott Kazmir (9-8, 5.08).

Molina is in today ( day game after a night game) but also because Posada fouled a ball off his foot but x-rays were negative.

Arod hasn’t had a day off in forever

Swisher also is a bit banged up from a foul ball so Hairston and Duncan will get to play today as well. I don’t think you lose a lot with them in there. Ok check that you always lose a lot when Arod is not in the line up.

Anyhow the game is on Yes Right now so if you are still here reading this turn the set on before returning.

Tomorrow: the Yankees get a day off before returning home. Look out folks its Boston on Friday. A couple of wins against the Red Sox could lock the division up in a hurry and let them get ready for the playoffs. I’m not sure of the pitching match ups but Beckett pitches today so we will miss him. I’m going to guess for the Yankees it will be Sabathia, Pettitte, Joba. Purely speculation but I’m going to guess we will see Dice K, Wake and perhaps Bucholtz, but I really don’t have a clue. Ill let you know when I hear something solid.
