The Yankee Captain is in search of greatness this week. He has 10 home games to get 4 hits to become the all time Yankee Hits leaders and break the record in the Bronx. This is a feat that will never be broken. This day and age players don’t stay on a single team long enough to even get a chance at a teams all-time hit records unless they play for the Rays, Diamondbacks, Rockies, or Marlins. It is just to hard to do on the older clubs. Multiply that by 100 and you get the answer to how hard it is to become the Yankees all-time hits leaders. The list looks like this, Lou Gehrig, Derek Jeter, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle. Let’s just take a second to appreciate that. The Iron Horse, The Bambino, and the Mick. I mean my father said it best when he said, “do you think Jeter looks at that list and says what the hell am I doing on there.”
The most important thing is that as a die hard Yankee fan I wouldn’t want anyone else to break this record. He is the quintessential Yankee. Clean cut, all business, and a passion to win championships. Never once did you hear about him beating his girlfriend, doing steroids, failing drug tests, or complaining about anything. If Jeter is 3-3 on the day and there is a guy on 1st and 2nd with no outs he will lay down a bunt if asked to move those guys over. That ladies and gentlemen is a baseball player.

Congrats to the Yankee Captain for whenever he breaks the record. Thank you for being a ball player and just a ball player. Thanks for playing the game right and giving kids like myself 15 years ago and kids today the opportunity to look up to you with out being let down at one point or another. Once again thank you and congrats on everything you have done for the Yankees and for myself because I am a fan first and foremost and you make me proud to say I am a Yankee Fan.
