jetertex It looks like Jeter is starting to go into a slump as he only had two hits and a walk today. The lack of an RBI in there is concerning. Obviously I’m kidding ,Jeter is still my pick for the MVP and he is padding his batting average every day, moving it up to .335 ,which is good for 5th in the American league. He is also in the top 1o in runs scored, Three hit games, and has 23 stolen bases only being caught 5 times.

The Yankees survived the first day of the new Joba Rules and as always made it look easy completing the sweep against the White Sox 8-3.

Yankees on the Mound: As predicted Joba Chamberlain was pulled after only three innings as part of the new Joba Rules to limit his innings. I’m assuming next time he will pitch 4 than 5 ect.. Building him up for the post season. He pitched ok but its hard to make a judgment of someone who only threw 35 pitches. However he did give up 2 runs on 4 hits. But its not unusual for Joba to give up a couple early and than shut them down. Alfredo Aceves came in and pitched 3 innings of scoreless ball and then they mixed and matched with Domaso Marte coming in for an out and David Robertson came in to get the second out of the 7th but got into a little bit of trouble allowing two hits. This prompted Joe Girardi to bring in Phil Hughes who got the fly ball to end the seventh.Hughes came back out to pitch a scoreless eighth and in a non save situation Phil Coke came in to pitch the ninth. He surrendered a meaningless Home Run but that was all as he got out of the ninth only throwing 12 pitches.

Yankees at the Dish: One player who isn’t slumping for sure is Mark Teixeira. Tex went 1-3 with 4 RBI’s hitting his 32 Home run of the year and his AL leading 101st RBI making it 6 straight seasons with at least 30 HR and 100 RBI’s. I don’t think anyone can argue that signing Tex was probably the Yankees best free agent move in a longtime. Equally important was the fact that he didn’t go to the Red Sox. Johnny Damon also hit a HR his 24th of the year tying his career high.  I think that the Yankees will probably bring him back next season he has been so good this year its hard to say otherwise. Although Matsui also has had a decent year with the stick hitting .268 with 23 HR and 78 RBI’s however his knees are not good. I would be surprised if the Yankees decided to bring him back next year. I’m certain he will find a DH spot with someone next year but it seems the Yankees are going to use the DH as a parking spot for its ageing Veterans at least for the foreseeable future. Alex Rodriguez continues to creep up his BA now at .270 after going 1-2 with 2 walks. The Yanks are definitely clicking on all cylinders.

Yankees on Deck: The Yankees start a three game set against Baltimore tomorrow night as it will be Andy Pettite vs Jeremy Gutherie following the O’s it will be 4 games against the Blue Jays over the weekend. I hate to say its a soft spot in the schedule but both these teams are pretty bad. In contrast the Red Sox face the Rays over the next three days so it could be a chance for the Yanks to put the division away. The Rangers who are still very much alive in the wildcard race behind the Red Sox are playing the Blue Jays who have been horrible. It may be an opportunity for them to make up some ground.
