matsui2hr The East is all but decided with the Yankees taking 2 out of 3 from the Red Sox a 7.5 game lead is almost unrecoverable. The Yankees were 7-3 on their road trip and won their last three series in a row. Sabathia picked up his AL leading 15th victory tonight with the 8-4 victory. Beckett did not have his good stuff as he left his curve ball hanging over the plate to get smacked around to the tune of 5 HR.

Yankees on the Mound:

As stated above Sabathia got his 15th win of the season and has not lost a game in August in three years. This year he is 5-0 in August and has entered the conversation for the 2009 AL CY Young. Tonight he went 6.2 innings giving up 3 ER on 8 hits and struck out 8. 148 strikeouts on the season which is 7th in the American League. Phil Hughes came on for 1.1 innings and gave up 0 ER on 1 hit and had a strikeout. Mariano Rivera came in for a scoreless ninth striking out 2 batters in the non save situation. However he did show some signs of being human as he walked a batter, only his 9th of the year.

Yankees at the Dish:

Derek Jeter has been so hot with the bat all season he took the very first pitch of the game and put it over the wall. When the Yankees score first they tend to win and tonight was no different. Jeter ended up going 2-5 his millionth multi hit game of the season as his average is now up to 332.

In the last Three games Hideki Matsui has 4 hits all of them Homers. Alex Rodriguez also hit one yard and is quietly coming out of his slump with 3 RBI’s on the night. Robinson Cano added a homer of his own so I will forgive him for the two errors he made tonight. In Cano’s defense he has been playing great in the field so hopefully you can overlook tonight as a fluke. No harm, No foul.  Nick Swisher and Melky Cabrera were the only ones not invited to tonight’s hitting party going 0-4.

Yankees on Deck:

The Yankees have Monday off in preparation for Texas at the stadium on Tuesday it will be Joba Chamberlain vs Kevin Millwood should be great. Look for pregame babble on Tuesday but make sure you come back tomorrow where we will make our playoff predictions.
