If you like to see a lot of offence this was the game for it. The Yankees Offence was incredible. Their pitching was horrible. I mean down right make you want to puke bad. The only good thing was that Boston’s pitching was worse. It was an embarrassing day to be a member of the Red Sox Nation as the Bombers pounded out the win 20-11, which is like an X-box baseball score when my son creams me with the Nationals.
Yankees on the mound:
Andy Pettitte struggled needing 105 pitches to get through 5 innings he gave up 7 runs on 7 hits. But on a day that he didn’t have his best stuff the offence picked him up and got him the win. Brian Bruney came in for 1.1 inning. Although he did not give up a run he really struggled with his command walking 3 batters and giving up a hit. Damaso Marte was up next fresh off the DL and did his job in 2/3 of an inning needing only 6 pitches with a strike out. In a game where the Bombers had a huge lead they didn’t want to use their best relievers so they let Sergio Mitre come in for the last 2 innings as a mop up guy. Boy did he suck. He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits including 2 homers. This guy is supposed to be your number 5 starter? Yikes, perhaps the Yankees should rethink that and let Chad Gaudin take the ball the next time that fifth starter spot comes around.
Yankees at the Dish:
It was a gross display of power from the Yankee bats I could go on and on about all the great hitting but you would get bored after a bit. I do want to mention a couple of things that really stand out; 1. Alex Rodriguez finally broke out of his funk going 4 for 4 with two runs scored. 2. Hideki Matsui had 7 RBI’s including two 3 run homers. Beyond that it will be easier just to print the box score :

As you can see there are a lot of numbers and a lot of hits . Tex had a big night too. Total the team pounded out 20 runs on 23 hits that’s just destructive offence.
Yankees on Deck:
Tomorrow the Yankees send out AJ Burnett 10-6 (3.69) to face Junichi Tazawa 1-2 ( 5,40) . One has to wonder if the Red Sox even want to make the playoffs this year. Notice how the Yankees lined it up so that their best three pitchers pitch against Boston. CC,Burnett,Pettitte Now common sense says Boston should come back with Beckett, Bucholtz and Lester. But for some reason they are letting Penny and Tazawa pitch. This is just plain stupid. Don’t give me the “ That’s how they fall in the rotation crap” Its called thinking ahead, if it means someone gets extra rest or pitches on short rest so be it. If you are going down go down with your best. Boston is a shell of the team they used to be and they have all but given up. I used to get all excited when these two teams play. Now I get more excited when the Yankees play the Blue Jays at least they try to win. Boston is pathetic.
Sundays game will be the only one I think will be worth watching Beckett vs CC Sunday night baseball on ESPN. Should be a classic! However I will probably mute the set and Listen to John and Susan call the game while I watch. ESPN announcers are horrible id rather pull off my fingernails with pliers. All and all at the end of this three game set I think the Final nail will have been placed and the Red Sox will be lucky if they even make the post season. Mainly because the Rangers are a better .
