Yesterday: The Yankees squared off against the Seattle Mariners for the first game of a 3 game home stand. The evening started off with Mariano Rivera throwing out the first pitch. Kind of a tribute to all he has done and reaching the 500 save plateau. He is hands down the greatest closer in Yankees history if not the entire game. Congrats to him and his shoe in hall of fame career.
The Yankees put Joba Chamberlain on the hill who went 5.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and really didn’t have his best stuff. He was opposed by Brandon Marrow who also struggled only lasting 4 and 2/3 innings as well.
Chamberlain was relieved by Phil Coke who recorded the final two outs of the sixth before turning the ball over to Phil Hughes in the 7th. It took Hughes just nine pitches to put the Mariners down which included a strikeout. In the eighth inning manager Joe Girardi made the controversial decision to take out Hughes in favor of Set Up Man Brian Bruney who promptly gave up 2 runs on three hit putting the fate of the game in Jeopardy. But fear not the Hot Yankee bats picked him up with Rbi hits from Melky Cabrera and Derek Jeter to get the ball to Closer Mariano Rivera who sealed the deal Yankees win 8-5.
Today: Today the Bronx Bombers meet up with the Mariners again for a pitching matchup that features Andy Pettite 7-3 vs Jared Washburn 3-4. Washburn is no stranger to the Yankees especially Alex Rodriguez who holds a .319 BA against him with 6 HR and 20 RBI. I think its safe to say this wont be the day that A-Rod gets rested. Check back one hour before game time which is @ 7:05 for more pregame blabbing and lineups.
Pitching: LHP Andy Pettitte (7-3, 4.38).
Pitching: LHP Jarrod Washburn (4-5, 3.22).
Tomorrow: Is a long was off so don’t push it. No seriously we will be playing the final game of this set. It is also a 7:05 start Lineups and Pitching TBA. With any luck fans will again be bringing their brooms to the stadium hoping for a Yankees sweep.
