The game didn’t start the way the Yankees wanted. CC Sabathia the ace was on the mound. He was forced to leave in the 2nd from what is being described as tightness in his left bicep. It is always tough for a pen to pick up 8 innings. At least the Yankees are off tomorrow and can absorb some of the innings.

The Yankees took the lead in the 3rd when A Rod, coming off of two days rest singled to score Nick Swisher and Mark Texiera. Derek Jeter scored earlier in the inning off of a double to right by Texiera.  The lead wouldn’t last though.

The inevitable happened. The Bull Pen faltered. The Yanks Pen has been pitching well letting up only 1 earned run in the last 18 innings.  However, none of those games featured Brett Tomko for any length of time.  Tomko needs a bus ticket to AA. The Yanks need to address their lack of solid relievers. Tomko is a journeyman and can give you one solid inning. Anything more then that is always a disaster. Tomko let up 3 earned runs on 3 hits. Robertson would follow and let up one run as well.

The Yanks would rally in the top of the 9th to cut the lead to 1. The Captain would ground out to second to end the game.  On the bright side Brett Gardner got a big triple that scored 2 runs in the in the top half of the 9th.  That will help his confidence in big spots.

Next the Yanks head to the ATL to take on the Braves after a day off tomorrow.
