The Yankees started their 9 game NL road trip with a big win 5-1. Andy Pettitte got the nod for the Yanks and youngster Sean West took the hill for the Marlins. Some pundits thought that the Yankees would have trouble with West having never seen him before. Pettitte comes into the game off of two starts were he struggled.
The Yankees started off quick with a shot to center by the Captain. He lead the game off with a 432ft double. Dead center at Joe Robbie stadium (I refuse to call it Land Shark Stadium) is the deepest part of the park costing Jeter his home run knock. No worries, Jorge Posada brought the captain home on a single to right. The Yankees would score 3 runs in the 2nd. Angel Berroa (getting the start for the “tired” A Rod) scored Cano on a double to deep center. Pettitte, would help out his own cause with a RBI Double to left scoring Berroa. I love it when the AL pitchers get hits. After the game Jeter told Kim Jones that he tells the pitchers he doesn’t care how they pitch just get a hit. Andy was happy to accommodate the Captain I am sure.
Speaking of Pettitte, he rolled. He threw 7 full innings letting up 1 run on 3 hits. Just the start that he needed to get back on track. Bruney and Tomko finished it out in a game that was never in doubt. Tomorrow the Yanks look to take the second of a three game set. 7:15pm be there be square.
