Yesterday the Bombers beat the Mets in the most unorthodox method I have ever seen. A walk off 2 run error gave the Yanks a 9-8 victory. In a game that saw the lead change as many times as most change their sox in a week the Yankees were able to come out with their 7th walk off victory of the season.
Down 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth Derek Jeter singled with one out then stole second on the pitch that struck out Johnny Damon. After going 3-0 on Mark Teixeira they Intentionally walked him putting the winning run on base to face Alex Rodriguez with two outs. Granted Not giving in to Tex was probably a good move being that Arod has been slumping and it should have paid dividends. What hapAndy Pettitespened next was unimaginable. Arod popped up to second on what should have been the game had it not been for Mets second baseman Luis Castillo dropping the routine fly ball. You also have to give lots of credit to Mark Teixeira who hustled the entire way scoring from first base.
Today: Alex Rodriguez Continued to hit the ball well for the third stright day. He hit a Solo Hr that accounted for half of the Yankees scoring. Unfortunately it wasnt Andy Pettite’s day as he gave up 5 runs on 12 hits in 5 innings and took the loss on what was a rough day for the Yankees. The Mets Fernando Nieve a converted reliever went 6 innings only allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.
Tomorrow: The Yankees and the Mets face off for an afternoon matinee as AJ Burnett 4-3 faces Johan Santana 8-3. In Burnetts last outing he did not fair well only lasting 2.2 Innings. He had good stuff mid 90’s fastball he just didn’t have command of it. Hopefully this time out will be better for him and the Bombers as they try and pull out a series victory. Monday will be a day off and Tuesday they will begin a series against the Washington Nationals. Hopefully Mike Geovosey will be able to get tomorrows lineups posted before game time, If not Ill be back after the game with wrap-up and a preview of the Washington series.
