BTFP and myself were on the road again today to take in the second game of what is now a 3 game set for the Yankees against the Tampa Bay Rays. First off, the stadium is beautiful. Anyone who doesn’t like  it is complaining about the cost of things. Other wise there is no reason to complain. The game was awesome to match. Also Gov. Palin and her husband Todd took in the game today as well.

Joba Chamberlain started for the Yanks and Matt Garza was on the hill for the Rays. After dropping yesterdays game the Yanks really needed to pull this one out so they could have a chance to take the series on Monday.

Joba pitched well throwing six full innings letting up 3 runs. That ladies and gentleman is a quality start. There is nothing more you can ask from a starter. Matt Garza was also dealing letting up 1 run through 5 full innings.  Mark Teixeira has been so good defensively that I think Yankee fans are taking it for granted. I counted 3 times during the course of the game where he made great plays at first that if he were not there they would be in right field. It’s the little things.

The Yanks found themselves down 2 runs in the 8th.  They ended up winning on a walk, error, and a fielders choice. The fielder’s choice, which featured Matsui digging out a possible double play to score ARod from third is what this Yankees team has been missing for years. As Joe Torre and Tom Verducci called it, “The Desperation to Win.” That is what this team has. they want to win at all costs. It’s exciting to watch and I am glad I make it to one home game per home stand. Until next time have a good day.
