The Minnesota Twins became the first victims of a sweep at the New Yankee Stadium losing 4 straight.
Tonight’s 7-6 victory was Andy Pettites 4th win of the season and his second in a row. Pettite is one of those guys who isn’t dominate but will keep you in the game. He went 6 2/3 giving up twelve hits and 4 runs but that was good enough as the Yankees scored 6 times in the first inning including back to back HR from Mark Texiera and Alex Rodrieguez. Texiera ended up with two HR on the night and has doubled his home run total sense A-rod has rejoined the line-up. This tandem is going to work great all season pitchers aren’t going to walk Texiera knowing that A-rod is batting behind him so look for Tex to see a lot of good pitches all season long.
The Twins squeaked back into this one but to little to late as the Yankees won their sixth in a row to go four games over .500
Interesting fact there has been at least one HR hit in every game at the new Yankee Stadium. A-rod and Texieria must be drooling over this information. However the Yankee bull-pen is not as ecstatic.
Word on the street is that Brian Bruney will be reactivated tomorrow. He admits that he may not be 100% but he is good enough to get out MLB hitters. Ching Ming Wang will throw a bull pen back at the Stadium under the Watchful eyes of Dave Eiland and Joe Girardi and then they will make a decision on weather of not he will be rejoining the team which may spell trouble for Phil Hugues who will likely be sent back down to Scranton.
With Bruney being reactivated there will be a roster move to follow i’ll let you know as soon as they make an announcement,
Baltimore is up next as CC Sabathia hopes to continue with the Bombers winning ways as he goes up against Brad Bergesen, RHP (1-1, 5.27) Bergesen, who took a loss against Tampa Bay in his last outing, will be looking to get back in the win column. Bergesen allowed nine hits and four earned runs against the Rays over 5 2/3 innings. Opponents have hit .348 off Bergesen in his five starts, but he has allowed just four homers and eight walks to limit the damage.
The last time CC faced the Birds he pitched a complete game 4 hit shut out. Hopefully he will be able to repeat this performance as I believe he is way to much of a pitcher for Baltimores line-up. Can the Yankees make it two sweeps in a row? After Sabathia the Birds will see Phil Hughes vs Jeremie Gutherie and Joba Chamberlain vs Adam Eaton in this last three game series before the start of Interleauge play when the Yankees will Host the Phillies.
